World first! SGH10 wire-actuated encoder wins i-NOVO Award

This year SIKO GmbH was once more an exhibitor at the SPS IPC Drives, Europe's leading specialist trade fair for electric automation. The event was held from 24 - 26 November 2015 in Nuremberg. At the fair the company presented its wire-actuated encoder SGH10, a global SIKO innovation. With its innovative technology and the new, patented function, the encoder attracted a great deal of attention. And this wasn't all - it also received the i-NOVO Tech Award, presented by the DirectIndustry online industry portal at the fair.

The i-NOVO Tech Award is given for products which stand out due to their innovative applications, for example for the development of a new technology, or a technological innovation in the manufacturing process.

The patented cylinder measuring system SGH10 is a small technical revolution. In contrast to conventional systems, a mechanical wire-actuated system is installed directly in the cylinder for measuring the stroke. The wire of the wire-actuated mechanical assembly is screwed to the cylinder head. The advantages of the SGH10 wire-actuated encoder are obvious: As it is not necessary to drill open the cylinder head, not only the manufacturing process is simplified, thereby saving time and money, but the piston is also stronger! MSA111C Magnetic Sensor

The MSA111C was specially developed to meet the high requirements in direct drive technology. Significantly higher dynamics, precision and speed call for a high control quality.

Absolute and incremental tracking are used to calculate the position values, so they are available immediately after the sensor has been switched on, without the need for a time-consuming reference drive.

Up until now, the absolute values were communicated using the SSI or RS486 protocol. Now, the DRIVE-CliQ interface is also integrated in the MSA111C, which allows the sensor to be operated without any problems on common Siemens SINUMERIK and SINAMICS control systems. The sampling rate to update the position values is usually 125 µs and can be reduced to 62.5 µs as needed.

Rosetta is the ESA’s (European Space Agency) scientific project to orbit and land on a Comet. After a series of gravity assisted manoeuvres around the Earth the Rosetta probe is now in position. The Rosetta cameras with help of Lika's encoders have been taking clear pictures of the comet 67/P and lander.

Our Encoders are helping the Rosetta Spacecraft mission

Rosetta Spacecraft Encoder After 10 years since launch, a 800 million kilometres deep space journey, three fly-bys of our planet, four overall gravity assist manoeuvres and 31-month hibernation, Rosetta spacecraft is ready to rendezvous with Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. In August it will be about 2 million kilometres far from the comet and it will study the nucleus of the comet and its environment for nearly two years. And as never before in November it will deploy the Philae lander to make first controlled landing on a comet. The mission will draw to a close in December 2015. By then, both the spacecraft and the comet will have circled the Sun and be on their way out of the inner Solar System.

LSC20 Optical Sensor

The new, high-precision LSC20 (Linear Scale Compact 20) length and angle measurement system works on an innovative principle that involves optically scanning fine structures on a thin metal strip (TS20). The system achieves an accuracy of 5 µm and is 100% hysteresis-free.

Absolute Encoder XAC77 It is the newest encoder designed for continuous operation even in demanding fields of application such as wind generators and steel mills. The core of this design is the proven encoder circuit with universal output, the full range of resolutions up to 10000 PPR and extended operating temperature range. Safe signal transmission at high counting frequency is granted even over long distances up to 300 m. Connections are available with cable or M23 connector output. The strong aluminum housing withstands heavy impacts and has a surface treatment to protect the C100 against salt water and corrosion (Off-shore applications). Blind hollow or tapered shafts are electrically insulated (up to 2,5 kV) in order to preserves ball bearings from damages due to eddy currents. Standard diameters are Ø16 or Ø17mm and up to Ø30mm on request.

New Universal Signal Converter Allows Easy Integration

IF20 signal Conditioner The IF20 incremental signal converter allows for safe data conversion and reliable transmission and communication, thus ensuring that “outdated” systems can be always updated or connected to modern devices. It is a level converter,potential separator and direction signal decoder for incremental encoder signals. It can accept on the input side single channel (AB0) and quadrature(AB0, /AB0) encoder signals with either RS-422 format or TTL or HTL(10-30V) level. If the signal provides direction information, the direction may be defined by either a A/B-90°phase displacement or by a static direction signal. Independent of the input level and the mode of direction information, the output always provides AB0 and/AB0 signals and again the direction may be selected as quadrature A/B format or as a static direction signal. The outputs provide Push Pull characteristics and the output level is about 1.5 volts lower than the power supply voltage(+5÷+30VDC). IF20 further allows potential separation between input and output. Inputs and outputs are insulated by means of inductive high-speed couplers. All signals can be connected alternatively via Sub-D-connectors or parallel terminal blocks. The IF20 boasts a slim and space-saving plastic housing with DIN rail mounting using clips.

The new pneumatic clamping plate KP09P enables locking of all adjustable axes with the push of a button. Compared to conventional manual clamping plates, locking the spindles is achieved with compressed air.
